Sometimes I feel like I have too many things on my wall, the junk drawer is driving me crazy, the fridge can't fit another condiment bottle, and if I step on one more toy...I'll go crazy.
I have felt this way about spaces for as long as I can remember. The only time I don't mind a mess is when I am trying to clean the mess...and I make a bigger one.
Going through drawers, rearranging kitchens, and donating items are some of my favorite past times. Why? Because I have the biggest sense of relief after opening up a spot or finding a better flow.
My biggest flex? I try to do it all with items I already own. Why? Because I am a mom, teacher, and wife and we have 3 little boys so buying everything that I pin on Pinterest isn't an option right now.
You can use what you have, especially when it is going to be tucked away in a closet or under the sink BUT don't be afraid to buy the cute container sometimes. You never know how quickly it will pay for itself.
There have been studies about finding the perfect balance between the amount of stuff in someone's space (commercial or residential) and their emotions. From personal experience, when my house feels cluttered, I am must more anxious. I can even tell it in my children when they wake up in the morning and toy, shoes and items from the night before are still scattered.
There have even been studies completed on children and the number of toys they should or shouldn't have and a link with their behaviors and attention spans.
Organizing your physical space does more for your mind, body, and soul when you can focus on you, your family, your pet, your book, whatever it might be and less time focusing on picking up items you might not want or use anymore.
Now, going minimalistic is up to you, remember there's a balance, but we will talk about that next time. We will also look into thrifting for your items (if you're okay with it not matching)!
